Location

CreativeCamp will be held in The Parade Tower at Kilkenny Castle on Saturday March 8th, 2008.

The Parade Tower is Kilkenny Castle’s dedicated functions area. It incorporates the entire west wing and includes two of the Castle’s mediaeval towers. It is a multi-purpose venue, which was designed to accommodate conferences, receptions and gala dinners as well as cultural and artistic events. The old and the new have been cleverly integrated in this very exciting venue.

Following the success of Podcamp Ireland in Kilkenny in September 2007, we’re delighted that Kilkenny is hosting CreativeCamp (what would have been traditionally BarCamp South East).

The Parade Tower is served by it’s own entrance, with CreativeCamp taking place on the second floor. The second floor is accessed via stairwell or via elevator from the ground floor and first floor.

Directions

Kilkenny Castle is located on the Castle Road, just a minutes walk from the city centre.

By Car Via Dublin Road: If travelling via the Dublin Road (Dublin / Carlow), turn left at Dublin Road Roundabout to cross the ring road (bridge over River Nore). At the next roundabout (Bennetsbridge Road Roundabout), turn right, down Gallows Hill, passing a Texaco garage on your left. Continue on approx 1 minute, following the Castle Road all the way to the castle.

By Car Via Waterford Road: If travelling via Waterford Road, you will arrive at the Waterford Road Roundabout when you pass the Spring Hill Hotel (approx 2 miles from city centre). At the Waterford Road Roundabout, turn right, following the ring road. Proceed straight through the next roundabout at Loughboy industrial park and continue on to the Bennetsbridge Road Roundabout, turning left and following instructions via Dublin as above (down hill, on to castle).

By Bus to Kilkenny: Bus Eireann operate a number of services to Kilkenny from around the country. There are two stops in Kilkenny - MacDonagh Junction (new shopping centre and existing train station) and Patrick Street. To save yourself the walk, get out at Patrick Street (bus stops a few yards up from Hibernian Hotel). In getting off the bus, cross the road and aim for the old Bank Of Ireland (very evident it’s a bank - also says so on the wall) on the corner. Stick to the right and go around the corner and the castle should be in plain sight. To check times in your area, use Bus Eireann’s Journey Planner. Approx walk is 2-3 minutes at a stroll.

By Train to Kilkenny: If you are travelling by train you will arrive at MacDonagh Junction. Fending off temptation to shop in Tk-Maxx or Zavvi, exit the train station and continue to your right, towards the main junction and traffic lights located at the top of John Street. At the traffic lights, turn left onto John Street, continuing all the way down (passing the Kilford Hotel, Langtons Hotel), crossing the bridge and continuing straight up Rose Inn Street to the traffic lights on The Parade. At The Parade, turn left (which will have you across the road from the bank - see above) and the castle will be in plain sight. Approx walk is 7-10 minutes at a stroll.

Maps will follow online marking out these routes.

Parking

Note that there is no parking available on the grounds of Kilkenny Castle. Restricted parking is available on the Castle Road (short term), on both left and right of the road with spaces nearest the castle entrance reserved for bus parking. Parking is best taken early in Kilkenny, limited spaces available on The Parade / Mayor’s Walk (a few yards down from Castle entrance) while Dunnes Stores car park and Ormonde Street car park (perhaps familiar to those who attended PodCamp) are located just a few minutes walk from the castle.

Marvelous. Any chance of info on any public transport routes? Bus? Train? Sherpa?

I think we should position sherpas with rickshaws at McDonagh Station to help people on their way down towards the Parade Tower for CreativeCamp.
