Staying In Kilkenny For CreativeCamp? »

If you’re planning on staying overnight in Kilkenny either on Friday or Saturday, or perhaps making a weekend of things, we’ve added an initial list of hotel and guesthouse accommodation in and around the city.

All times provided are estimated walking times, there are links available to each hotel and guesthouse along with contact telephone numbers. Guesthouse rates in Kilkenny start from an average of €30pps.

You can view the accommodation list here.

Guidance for speakers »

We will be going with 45 minute slots for each talk and based on previous barcamps it would be good to allow people to leave after 35-40 minutes so they can find the next talk, network etc.

So if you aim for a 20 to 25 minute talk with time then for discussion/Q&A that would fit nicely.

It’s a small thing (25cl) but… »

McGovern Organic Wines (based in Leitrim) are supplying 95 mini bottles of organic and fairly traded wines for lunchtime at the Creativecamp.

Thanks to Susan McGovern and to Stellar Organic Winery for this :-)

Dungeons and DSL »

We are holding Creative Camp in a castle. Which has 10 foot thick walls (measure them on the day if you think that is an exaggeration :-)). We have a main networking and gathering area (probably also going to be used for panel discussions) and 3 breakout rooms that will be used for the individual talks.

The breakout rooms are small to medium sized and 2 of them are quirky in shape. We are piggybacking on a neighbouring DSL connection (with permission) and thus should have the use of a 3MB DSL line (via wireless feed) for the day. That is being tested out tomorrow. The resident connection within the Castle is not really fast enough for us to use.

Catering will be good - but in a separate room at the bottom of the tower which is darker than the rest ’cause it is where the dungeon would have been. So hope for a sunny day so we can spill out into the park.

So on the day be patient and enjoy!

Afterwards »

Just talking to Ken who is fresh (or not so fresh) from his Blog Awards evening. We decided that any networking eats/drinks are easiest on Saturday evening after we wrap up so that is what we shall do.  Decide on a venue closer to the time - might go somewhere which will feed us as well.

So if you feel inclined leave an hour or two in your planning post 5pm on Saturday :-). If anyone is separately organising anything for Friday evening you can leave a comment here to let the rest of us know.

How far are people travelling? »

We were asked this today by Ann in Kilkenny Castle - who assumed that the camp would have a mostly local flavour. Out of curiousity I scanned the attendee list and this is the currently numbers and the counties they are coming from. There is a great spread of counties and no-one too dominant.

Over on the Car pooling post Ina from Galway is offering a lift.

Gerard Hartnett is also offering a lift from Limerick (or to be a passenger).

Faddie diets and other special requests »

By virtue of one of the organisers (me) being vegan by diet I can tell you right now that vegetarians and vegans can turn up at the Creative Camp gathering in the certain knowledge that your special brand of food fetish is being catered for alongside the flesh eaters :-)

If anything outside of those 2 options tickles your fancy please let us know in advance.

Coming To CreativeCamp By Bus Or Train? »

If you’re considering coming to CreativeCamp by bus or by train then you might want to take a look at our location page as we’ve added directions to CreativeCamp for those of you choosing one of our national modes of transport.

Early trains from both Dublin and Waterford will have you in Kilkenny in time for the start of CreativeCamp and we’ve included a link to Bus Eireann’s journey planner to check the bus times closest to you.

We’ll be adding maps and a graphic guide shortly to make finding CreativeCamp even easier!
